Frequently Asked Questions

  • To create my artwork, I use a variety of tools – stylus, dowels, paintbrushes, embossing needles, whittled skewers and toothpicks. I also use a lighted magnifying glass to help me to be more precise, but there are always zen flaws. If you look closely, you will find imperfections in all my pieces. Hopefully, the overall effect is pleasing to the eye, though.

  • I use acrylic paints from a variety of brands. With more viscous paints, I thin them out with pouring medium and/or water to create texture I’m looking to achieve; the desired paint thickness is different for flat dots, plumpy dots, smooth swoops, fine lines, etc.

  • I generally seal my artwork with Liquitex UV resistant gloss varnish, but have been known to use a matte finish, as well. Also, I’ve begun exploring epoxy resin to seal my functional artwork.

  • My inspiration comes from colors in nature, from the beauty created by other artists, and from the whimsical vagaries of my mind. The more I paint, the more I learn to trust my creative process. There are times when I can tell that I’m making something pleasing, but there are plenty of times I create real duds that don’t make it to market.

  • Each piece of artwork that I create is unique. I do riff on my designs, but they’re never exactly the same.

  • At this time, I am not accepting commissions.

  • Of course! I would love for you to share my artwork with your community! I only ask that you give me full credit for my artwork, follow my account (@allison.in.wonderland.designs), and tag me in your posts!

  • I generally find my stones on beach along the Atlantic Ocean, near my home in New England.

  • I do not. Part of the fun is finding the perfect stone for your project!

  • My mandala stones are works of art, and should be treated/cared for, as such. Each piece is sealed with layers of varnish that protect the artwork from general exposure (light, dust, etc). Indoor display is recommended. However, I’m not going to lie…my mandala stones do look fabulous in a garden. Please be aware that small hands (playing with/dropping mandala stones) and weather (acid rain, prolonged sunlight, extreme temperatures, etc.) can degrade the paint/varnish over time. To minimize the effects of weather, I recommend taking the mandala stone indoors during fall/winter. During that time, you can rinse off any dirt, and apply a few coats of varnish to prepare the stone for its time outside, once again. Also, if possible, it’s best to avoid exposing the mandala stone to full sun.

  • Orders ship within 3-5 business days after being placed. Packages ship via USPS first class or priority mail from the greater Boston area in Massachusetts, and come with a tracking number.

  • At this stage in my nascent business, I only ship within the United States.

  • Delivery times vary depending on your location. Expect longer deliver times around the holidays.

  • I accept all major credit cards.

  • I wrap my artwork in recycled materials, when possible. The recycled materials are embellished with stamps of my logo and design, which I think makes it special.

If the item has already shipped, you will be responsible getting the item forwarded to the correct address. I do not assume any responsibility for lost parcels if an incorrect address was given at the time of order.

  • I can only process cancellations that are received prior to shipping. Orders that have already shipped are not eligible for cancellation. To request a cancellation, email me at allison@allisoninwonderlanddesigns.com.

  • All sales are final. Should there be any questions or concerns about the work you receive, please email allison@allisoninwonderlanddesigns.com.
