Inaugural Blog Article
Hello, world! Welcome to the first blog article for Allison In Wonderland Designs. In this piece, I’d like to introduce you to my creative journey, starting with how I arrived at the unique name for my business.
I had always viewed creating and gifting my artwork to family and friends like a transmission of love. Giving my work as presents felt heartwarming and uncomplicated. And I loved to see my work bring joy and beauty into someone’s home. Then, people started asking if they could buy my work…followed by a few more requests, and so on. Ack! Selling my artwork? How? Where? When?
After a lengthy wrestle with the concept of making money by selling my art babies…I finally said, “Why the hell not?!” First obstacle…what to call my business. I seemingly had no ideas for a good business name, so I surveyed my family and friends. Bam…suddenly I went from 0 ideas to 63 suggestions! Big thanks to my village (and, as a total non sequitur, to the Village People, beloved band from my childhood). Want a looksee at those suggestions? Here we go:

The suggestion that floated to the top of the list was made by my friends Kathleen and Lucho - “Allison’s Wonderland”. That suggestion stood out because it reminded me of when I was a little girl, and had an “Alice In Wonderland” coloring book. You see, I was prone to magical thinking as a child, often dwelling in the fantasy land of my mind. Naturally, my brain had transposed this coloring book’s title into “Allison In Wonderland” and, as I colored away, I just knew that all the pages were about me! That was such a sweet, creative time in my young life, when everything and anything felt possible. In honor of that innocent and happy time, I named by business “Allison In Wonderland Designs”.
May all things be possible in this nascent business. May creativity flow through my hands on onto the objects I touch, bringing joy to those who purchase my work.
